      <image:title>Home - Psychotherapy to fit your needs</image:title>
<image:caption>Based in Elephant and Castle, close to Kennington, Clapham and Zone 1, as well as online therapy and counselling online via Skype, South London Psychotherapy draws on a wide range of contemporary techniques in psychoanalysis, counselling and psychology from the UK, Europe and the Americas: professional, confidential, fully-insured and UKCP accredited therapy adapted to you and your goals. Problems which can respond well to psychotherapy include: depression, anxiety, relationship issues, performance at work, creativity and writer’s block, stress, fear, anger and despair, grief, sexual problems, addictions, suicidality and lack of motivation. I enjoy showing people that big changes are possible. I also know that small steps often make a big difference over time. I am experienced in conducting therapy over Skype, Zoom and over the phone. <image:title>Home - Modern, inclusive therapy and Skype counselling in SE1 and online.</image:title>
<image:caption>Talking to a therapist or counsellor can be the first step in discovering the causes of anxiety, depression or anger and making significant changes. I’m always very happy to be part of the “is therapy right for me” conversation. If you find that’s a question you’re weighing up, individually or as a couple, there’s probably something interesting to talk about. In the first session I will ask you to talk about what brings you to therapy and we’ll build up a general picture of your life so far and how you might like the future to be different. This session takes about an hour and is free. I am a UKCP certified psychoanalytic psychotherapist and counsellor, working with people who have lost a sense of wellbeing, happiness or purpose in their lives. Though I'll start by asking you about your symptoms, we will also think about the deeper issues which may have caused them: we could think of this as a journey from management to change. Often people decide to come once or twice a week; with serious issues it may be more often. I often find a first meeting is the most helpful way of you talking through your problems and together we will decide what you might need and what way of working might suit you best. For a number of years I have also been working online via Zoom, WhatsApp or over the phone: I am experienced in working in this way and have found people take to very naturally. It can take a bit of getting used to and some ground rules at the beginning help a lot. I know that for some people privacy is an issue when sharing their home: I will do my best to adapt your session time around this and suggest ways you can create a space where you may speak freely. I believe there are many possibilities for your way forward through life and that therapy offers a space where you will find you can speak openly about yourself, sometimes for the first time. <image:title>Therapists - Dr Nick Blackburn</image:title>
<image:caption>I believe there are many possibilities for your way forward through life and that therapy offers a space where you will find you can speak openly about yourself, sometimes for the first time. Often people find that simply being able to speak of something in complete confidence results in a considerable lessening of anxiety. Putting our problems into words often reveals how we feel about them at a deeper level. I have extensive experience working with gay, lesbian, trans and non-binary people, for whom questions around relationships, identity and sex may or may not be the focus of our work together. I would encourage you to see therapy as a time in your life where you devote an extended period to in-depth work on your thoughts and feelings, about yourself and your place in your world. I am also pleased to offer short-term courses of ten weeks or more on addressing a specific life change, such as a loss or major decision. For some this is a natural gateway into a longer-term commitment to therapy. The way I work is informed by the psychoanalysis of Freud, but adapted to the modern world. I came to therapy through literature and the arts and hold a Ph.D. from Trinity College, Cambridge where I taught English Literature for several years. I have worked as a therapist for Mind and the Single Homeless Project. I am currently Chair of The Site for Contemporary Psychoanalysis and a member of the College of Psychoanalysts-UK. I am a Full Clinical Member of the UKCP, who require their members abide by a code of ethics and participate in regular, confidential supervision. The first session is free. Consultation fees range from £90 to £120, depending on time of day and personal circumstances. Couples therapy is £150 per 90min session. Book an initial consultation with Nick ➝</image:caption>

      <image:title>Therapists - What should I expect from therapy?</image:title>
<image:caption>You will come for an initial consultation of 60-90 minutes where you will be invited to discuss what brings you to therapy and what outcomes you are hoping for. Typically you will then come at a regular time each week, for 50 minutes. During this time you will try as far as possible to put whatever comes to mind into words without censoring yourself. This can take a while to get used to but the results are very powerful. The therapist’s job is to listen, intently and without judgement and to respond to the unconscious when it speaks. Psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and counselling are known to be helpful methods for untying the knots of depression, addiction, anxiety, job and relationship stresses as well as blocks to effective performance in work, sports, social and sexual life.</image:caption>
